Every kind of book needs a different kind of care

A picture book depends on illustration. A monograph can fail on its index. A novel needs an editor who understands its genre. We do not push every manuscript through the same production line.

Fiction

A novel needs patient editing, a cover that signals its genre and production that disappears once you’re immersed in the story.

Nonfiction

Readers come with a question. Structure, evidence and navigation should help them reach a useful answer.

Children’s Books

The words and pictures are planned together, with page turns, character consistency and reading age in mind.

Business Books

Many business books are used in meetings, speeches and sales conversations. We shape them for that purpose.

Memoir

A life contains more material than a book can hold. Editing finds the story and protects what matters.

Poetry

Line breaks, white space and page position carry meaning. The typesetting must respect them.

Academic

Arguments share the page with notes, references, tables and indexes. We produce the apparatus as carefully as the text.

Illustrated & Color Books

When images are central, colour, paper choice and proofing become editorial decisions as well as production choices.

The Roadmap

From Idea to Launch

Idea

Every book starts as a spark — a half-formed thought, an expertise you carry, a story only you can tell. In this first stage we pressure-test that spark: who is this really for, what will it change for them, and why are you the one to write it. By the end, you have a one-page brief that every later decision stands on.

  • Concept & positioning
  • Reader promise
  • Title direction
  • Comparable titles study

You leave with: a one-page book brief & positioning statement.

Outline

A book without a map wanders. Here we translate the brief into a chapter-by-chapter architecture — what each chapter promises, how they connect, and where the reader’s interest must be re-hooked. Milestones are attached to the outline so momentum is planned, not hoped for.

  • Chapter-by-chapter map
  • Milestone schedule
  • Research plan
  • Structure review session

You leave with: a full outline & a dated writing calendar.

Writing

Drafts are built in sprints, not marathons. Depending on how you work best, this stage is structured coaching, hands-on ghostwriting, or something in between — but either way there is a weekly rhythm: pages in, feedback back, next target set. The draft either holds together or it doesn’t, and we make sure it does.

  • First-draft sprints
  • Weekly momentum checks
  • Coaching or ghostwriting
  • Progress reviews

You leave with: a complete, structurally sound first draft.

Editing

One editing pass is never enough — and we will never pretend it is. The manuscript goes through four distinct gates: a developmental edit for the story’s bones, a line edit for rhythm, a copyedit for correctness, and a final proofread for the last one per cent. Every sentence earns its place.

  • Developmental edit
  • Line & copy edit
  • Final proofread
  • Author review rounds

You leave with: a publication-ready manuscript, tracked and approved.

Design

Readers judge a book in three seconds — the cover does the talking first. We design a cover that signals your genre honestly, then typeset the interior so reading feels effortless: balanced pages, careful typography, and artwork placed exactly where the words need it.

  • Cover design
  • Interior typesetting
  • Illustrations & figures
  • Print proofs review

You leave with: print-ready cover & interior files you approve.

Publishing

This is where small mistakes cost real money — and where we make none. ISBNs, metadata, pricing, print-on-demand setup, ebook conversion, and audio options are all configured correctly the first time, so your book is available everywhere it should be, under your name.

  • ISBN & metadata
  • Print-on-demand setup
  • Ebook & audio formats
  • Imprint & copyright setup

You leave with: a live, correctly registered book listing.

Launch

Launch day is a beginning, not an ending. We build a runway of early readers and reviews, line up press where it makes sense, and set up evergreen discovery so the book keeps selling in month six as it did in week one — without you chasing it.

  • Launch strategy
  • Early reader & review plan
  • Press & outreach
  • Evergreen discovery setup

You leave with: a 90-day post-launch plan that keeps working.

In authors’ words

What it is like to work with us

The copyedit was the part I resented paying for and the part that changed the book most. I got the manuscript back with about nine hundred tracked changes and a letter explaining the four habits behind most of them. I have not made those four mistakes since.
Nadia Brennan Crime novelist, The Harbour Line
I had a keynote date and a manuscript that was thirty per cent too long. They planned backwards from the date, told me in month two which chapters had to go, and hit it. The honesty about what would not fit was worth more than the encouragement.
Desmond Achebe Operations consultant, Decision Debt
Nobody had explained the storyboard stage to me. I thought illustration meant sending a manuscript and getting pictures back. Sitting down and deciding where every page turn fell was when the book actually became a book.
Marisol Vega Children’s author, The Dark Is Just a Room
My editor asked what the book was about underneath the births, and I did not have an answer for two weeks. When I found it, I cut eighty pages without minding. I would not have got there alone.
Ruth Kalinowski Memoirist, Thirty-Eight Years of Mornings
They would not let me approve the book from a screen. The first physical proof came back and the blacks were wrong, which I would never have seen otherwise. We went round three times. That insistence is why the book is what it is.
Hana Lindqvist Photographer, The Three O’Clock Boats
I sent a collection with unusual spacing and expected a fight. Instead the typesetter asked which line was longest so the measure could be set from it. That one question told me the book was in the right hands.
Oyelaran Fadipe Poet, Two Tongues, One Room
The index is why libraries picked it up, and I would not have commissioned one on my own. The scheduling was slower than I hoped, though they warned me it would be and explained why each time.
Dr Gideon Mbeki Urban historian, The Water Question
What I valued was being told what they could not promise. No sales projections, no talk of bestseller lists. Just a list of what would be delivered and a report afterwards showing it had been.
Priya Raghunathan Science journalist, The Evidence Gap
