Distribution Insights

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about international book fulfillment, library catalogs, wholesale discounts, and retail availability.

Which bookstores and retailers will actually carry my book?

Your title will be globally orderable through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org, BAM!, Powell's, Waterstones, Chapters Indigo, and any independent bookstore in North America, Europe, Australia, and the UK connected to the Ingram network.

Do physical bookstores put my book on their physical shelves?

With distribution in Ingram's catalog, your book is instantly available in their ordering system. Any reader can walk into a bookstore and request it, and bookstores can order copies for their physical shelves, author signings, or local interest displays.

How does international Print-on-Demand (POD) work?

When a reader in Sydney, London, or Tokyo places an order, the book is printed at a certified regional facility in Australia, the UK, or Asia and shipped locally within 24 to 48 hours. This minimizes delivery time and eliminates costly international customs fees.

How do royalties work on wholesale distribution?

Your royalty equals the retail price minus the wholesale discount (typically 40%–55%) minus the printing cost. The remaining net profit is 100% yours. We do not take ongoing percentage cuts of your book royalties.

Can I purchase copies of my own book at wholesale cost?

Yes! As the author, you can order author copies at pure print cost plus shipping anytime, with no minimum order requirements. Order 10 copies for friends or 500 for a keynote speaking tour at substantial discounts.

Do I need separate ISBN numbers for hardcover, paperback, and eBook?

Yes. International publishing standards require a unique ISBN for each distinct format (hardcover, paperback, and digital ePub). BookOra provides and assigns official 13-digit ISBNs for all formats registered under your author imprint.

Can libraries buy and lend my book?

Yes. We submit your digital and print editions to OverDrive, Libby, and Baker & Taylor's library services. Public, municipal, and university libraries can purchase licenses and physical copies for their permanent lending collections.

Can I update or revise my book after distribution is live?

Yes. One of the great benefits of digital print-on-demand is flexibility. If you need to fix a typo, update an endorsement on the back cover, or refresh interior formatting, revised files can be uploaded and propagated across the network seamlessly.
